Traffic Safety Education (TSE) Program: No doubt your teenager is eagerly looking forward to obtaining a learner’s permit and the privilege of taking driver education. As parents and instructors, we have a serious responsibility to provide our youth with an opportunity to learn to use the motor vehicle wisely and safely. The following information is provided to help you plan ahead for this vital instructional program. All parents are invited to come and observe at least one of their student's driving sessions.
About our teen curriculum: Our teenage programs are based on the Vermont Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association's cutting-edge approach to reducing crashes by raising driver awareness and increasing decision-making ability. Most drivers suffer in 3 areas. The ability to:

When should teens take driver's ed? This instruction is most effective when students are at the height of their own motivation to learn, and it is most valuable when they will soon be able to apply what has been learned. Enrollment for those who have emotional problems or lack sufficient maturity to accept the responsibilities involved should be delayed to a later date. You are an active partner in the learning process because prior to obtaining a Junior Operator’s License, an individual must complete forty hours of practice behind the wheel, with at least ten hours being night-time driving. This is in addition to the six instructional hours provided by the school.Remember to get your learner's permit: Please be reminded that no person may legally drive any automobile upon the public highways or streets without a valid learner’s permit or license. The learner must have a licensed driver who is at least 25 years old seated beside him or her. The permit may or may not let you drive in other states. Please remember that the impressions gained by young people while riding with you as a driver are highly resistant to change later on. Interested students, who are at least 15 years old, are encouraged to obtain their Vermont permit prior to the first class. Permits from other states are not valid in Vermont. Students who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate (proof of classroom and on-road hours) recognized in most states. If you are from out-of-state, you can get a learner's permit if you are taking our driving course. Students who plan to obtain leaner permits after the start of classes are reminded they will need:
To prep for the permit test, you may obtain the Vermont Driver’s Manual from the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles in Montpelier (http://dmv.vermont.gov/publications/drivers) or contact us. A wonderful tutorial for the permit test can be found on-line at http://dmv.vermont.gov/young-drivers; just click on the sample test section. Your son/daughter is taking on one of the most important responsibilities a young adult may face . . . that of becoming an active participant in the highway transportation system. Your teenager will also be exploring values and attitudes as well as learning to make good choices for developing life-long safe driving habits that reduce the risk of crashes. Working together, you and I will provide your teenager with a sound basis for a lifetime of safe and efficient driving. You may contact Westminster Driving School at 387-4014 for more information. Please be reminded that no person may legally drive any automobile upon the public highways or streets without a valid learners permit or license. The learner must have a licensed and unimpaired driver who is a parent or guardian, driver education instructor or a person at least 25 years old seated beside him or her in the vehicle. The permit may or may not let your student drive in other states. Consult the Vermont Driver’s Manual for other rules and processes. Please remember that the impressions gained by young people while riding with you as a driver are highly resistant to change later on. All parents are invited to come and observe at least
one of their student's driving lessons.
