Driver education is making a difference Driver education is making a difference in Oregon. With the option in Oregon of a formal driver education program or only relying on parents to do the instruction and driving with parents for a hundred hours clear differences exist. There choice system provides two groups and related data. “The crash rate for the teens taking formal driver education was 11-21% LOWER than those taking the 100 hours of practice time options with their parents. Traffic conviction rate for teens taking formal driver education was 39-57% LOWER…and driver license suspension rate for the teens taking formal driver education was 39-57% LOWER. This is information from John Harvey that appeared in the summer 2006 issue of the American Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association publication THE CHRONICLE. |
